New Polls on Specter Even Worse Than They Seem Friday, Oct 30 2009

Franklin and Marshall has a new poll out on Pennsylvania. You can read the full document here. They have pegged Specter at an approval rating of 23%, but it’s actually much worse than that. Here’s their chart:

In addition, F&M looks at the head-to-heads for Specter with Toomey in the general. Their numbers show Specter at 31% to Toomey’s 33%, a statistical dead heat, with 30% undecided.

It’s likely actually worse than that because of the weighting problems F&M has, for whichSource: 2008 Democratic Convention Watch RSS Feed

Happy 21st! Friday, Oct 30 2009

We’re on our way north to celebrate my daughter’s 21st birthday tonight. She’ll be playing in a concert at Sonoma State University, and for the first time, my mom and my sister’s family will be visiting the campus with us.
Should be fun.
Her birthday will always be associated with Halloween, and that was always a favorite holiday of hers because she got to dress up. Since she was such a cute little stinker, I snagged some video from Halloween 1990 when she was only 2:

Anti-Gravity Treadmill helps the injured and the elderly Thursday, Oct 29 2009

Treadmills and I don’t exactly get along and I imagine I’m not the only one that detests them.  My hatred started after a back injury, the jarring steps you take on a treadmill hurt far more than they help when you’re injured.  Well if my gym had one of these treadmills I wouldn’t have had that problem.  This Anti-Gravity Treadmill makes it feel as if you’re jogging in zero gravity.  That makes it ideal for anyone with an injury that keeps them from jogging. Although jogging onSource: British Blogs RSS Feed

Progress on three fronts – Iraq, Iran and Pakistan Tuesday, Oct 27 2009

When the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced President Obama as winner of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize there were some Americans who claimed he had not earned it. A few rather condescendingly came up with lists of things he could do to earn it.
Yet in the eight and a half months this administration has been in office the President has made solid accomplishments in foreign policy and started movements on different fronts that can lead to real peace and stability. Barack Obama campaigned onSource: Sisyphus RSS Feed

The much anticipated first YouGov voting intention poll of Welsh voters is just out and suggests that the Tories are going to make big gains in a part of the UK which used to be almost a blue-free zone. The comparisons above are with what actually happened in the Principality on May 5th 2005.

The Public Option is not Optional Sunday, Oct 25 2009

The term “public option” is a clever piece of propaganda. It underwrites equally slippery bits of sophistry. Wouldn’t you like to have the opportunity to choose between private and public insurance? Don’t you like having choices?
A better question would be “Wouldn’t you like to be forced to pay for the insurance policies of millions of other people? Don’t you like being forced to pay for things that you don’t get?” The “option” of some is the compulsion of others. They are two sides of Source: E pur si muove! RSS FeedSource: E pur si muove! As Rachel reports, it looks like the vote taken by 30 Republicans to protect contractors rather than rape victims is not playing very well for them in their local papers.

Jamie Leigh Jones and her attorney joined Rachel to talk about what happened to her and weigh in on the Republican response that the amendment was just a way to take a “political shot” at Halliburton.

the speech obama needs to (but will not) give…, Friday, Oct 23 2009

The Oil Drum | As I’m sure all of you are painfully aware, the United States, along with the rest of the world, is in the midst of some of the most profound economic, environmental, and energy troubles ever experienced by modern civilization.
I understand the deep pain, anger, and confusion many of you are feeling at this moment, and I sympathize. My goal tonight is to try to clarify our situation a bit, and in doing so, perhaps channel some of those feelings towards moreSource: subrealism RSS Feed
